HUNDREDS OF VOTERS AT OBAMA RALLY SIGN PAPER PETITION CALLING ON OBAMA TO JOIN SENATOR CLINTON IN SUPPORTING GAS TAX REPEAL

ONLINE PETITION SIGNED BY 1000+ WEB USERS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DETROIT, MI – Democrats for Gas Tax Repeal today announced that hundreds of Michigan voters who attended his rally tonight in Detroit have signed a petition urging Senator Barack Obama to support a temporary repeal of the Federal Gas Tax to provide Americans hardest hit by record-high gas prices with some needed relief.

“Hundreds of Democrats who attended the Obama rally tonight agree that the people of Michigan are desperate for relief from excessive gas taxes and are crying out for a leader who understands the needs of ordinary Americans,” says James Allen, founder of Democrats for Gas Tax Repeal. “Senator Clinton understood that ordinary Americans are struggling to make ends meet and we call on Senator Obama to join us in support of repealing the gas tax for the remainder of the summer.”

Hundreds of voters signed the paper petition with name and phone number as they waited in line at the Joe Louis Arena. Another 1004 signed the petition online.

The temporary repeal would save Michigan workers approximately 20 cents per gallon of gas over the summer. The signatures will be submitted Sen. Obama’s campaign and members of the press tomorrow and SCANNED COPIES OF THE PAPER PETITIONS will be posted at http://www.gastaxrepeal.blogspot.com/ immediately at 9pm tonight.

PLEASE CONTACT GASTAXREPEAL@GMAIL.COM TO SCHEDULE A PHONE INTERVIEW WITH OUR SPOKESPERSON, MR. JAMES ALLEN.

Help Us at Obama Event Gather Signatures

Are you attending the Obama event Monday? We are doing a project for his visit.I am a Democrat and am hurting because of the high price of gasoline.

Today, on this Father's Day, I was thinking about whether I could afford to put new shingles on my roof and decided to hold off for now because of the rising price of gas. It is now well over $4.00 a gallon and supposedly only going higher.

I supported Governor Granholm for re-election in 2006 and appreciated her hard work in trying to lower the price of a gallon of gas. She formed a petition drive and hundreds of thousands of Michigan voters signed it urging President Bush to take action on this critical problem.Recently, Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator McCain endorsed the temporary repeal of the federal gas tax that would have saved Michigan workers approximately 20 cents per gallon of gas over the summer.

Unfortunately, Senator Obama opposed the temporary repeal of the gas tax. But there is still time left to change his mind. He is coming to Michigan tomorrow and we think we can convince him to endorse the gas tax repeal if enough Michigan voters urge him. Our goal is to get 1000 signatures. Will you help?

Therefore, instead of spending time working outside today, I have formed a petition drive, similar to Governor Granholm's from 2006, that urges Barack Obama to join Senators Clinton and McCain in support of the temporary repeal of the gas tax.

We are hurting here in Michigan and we need the help! Please click http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/gastaxrepeal/ <http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/gastaxrepeal/> and join me in signing the gas tax repeal petition that will be given to Senator Obama this week in Michigan.

Please also forward this email to your friends and ask them to sign!

Sincerely,

James Allen
